Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Sculpt and restore your shape

For those who are concerned with abdominal fat then a Tummy Tuck is aimed at reducing the excess fat and skin, as well as tightening and flattening the anterior abdominal wall. This deformity may occur as a result of child bearing where there is stretching of the supportive structures of the abdominal wall, such as the muscles and ligaments. Associated stretch marks are usually present contributing to an unsightly appearance. The result of this procedure is open permanent, although major fluctuations in weight or pregnancy may reverse the benefits of this procedure.

The operation is performed under general anaesthetic in hospital and takes 2-3 hours. The procedure involves removing the fat and excess skin from above the belly button to the pubic area and from hipbone to hop bone. The belly button is preserved and moved into a new position. At the same time, the underlying muscle layer is also tightened to flatten the tummy.

The way your surgery is planned is tailored to your individual needs, and will be determined when you meet with Dr Edinburg.

The procedure The recovery period usually takes 4 weeks, with patients able to return to most physical activities within 6-8 weeks.
Possible Side Effects and Risks: Bleeding, infection, poor scars and delayed wound healing (for smokers especially).
