The purpose of chin augmentation is to improve the profile and jaw line. This can be carried out by different techniques. The simplest method is to place a contoured piece of silicone in the front of the jawbone. Access can be through an internal or external incision. Another technique is to move part of the bone of the jaw forward and this is usually achieved through an internal incision.
Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping may be required in conjunction with Genioplasty. Dr Edinburg will advise you if this applies to you.
The procedure The procedure is carried out in hospital, with the patient due for a day stay or longer if bone is to be moved. The surgery takes 1-2 hours and recovery is achieved in 7-10 days.
Possible Side Effects and Risks: Swelling, bruising, discomfort, bleeding, infection, explanation and movement.
