Ganglion is a condition characterised by the development of a lump or cyst in areas of the finger and wrist. Ganglions can occur elsewhere in the body such as the knee joint or foot joints. The lump usually consists of a jelly-like material and is usually transparent and arising from a joint. Treatment may involve breaking the cyst, aspirating the material or even surgical removal.
The procedure At the Eden Institute of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery we are able to remove your Ganglion through a procedure that usually takes 40 minutes, depending on the extent of the condition. This can be done under general or local anaesthetic with sedation. The recovery time is approximately two weeks. Dr Edinburg will discuss the most appropriate treatment option at the time of your consultation.
Dupuytrens is a condition characterised by the progressive contracture of the fingers and by the development of nodules and cords in the palm and the fingers. The end result is that the patient may not be able to straighten the fingers and thus develop functional problems, such as the inability to wash their face, or placing their fingers in their pockets. This condition can be treated at the Eden Institute of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery by surgically releasing the tissue that is causing the contracture.
The procedureThe time necessary to administer the procedure will vary depending on the number of fingers and site affected by the Dupuytrens. Dr Edinburg will perform the procedure under general anaesthetic at a hospital. The recovery time will also vary from 2-6 weeks on a case by case basis.
