Hand injuries may include lacerations, foreign bodies, broken bones, cut tendons, nerve injuries and muscle damage. At the Eden Institute of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery the most important aspect of our treatment is early diagnosis, adequate and proper treatment and appropriate post-trauma care. Management usually involves operative intervention in a hospital, while the duration of the procedure and stay will depend on the extent of the injury.
The patient's rehabilitation will also depend on the severity of the injury. Physiotherapy treatments are usually an integral part of the recovery process and may require several treatments a week. For example, a repaired tendon may require at least 10-12 weeks for full recovery, which may have a considerable impact on the patient's life.
The presence of tumours in the hands may be a benign or a malignant condition. Each lump will need to be assessed at the Eden Institute of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery followed by a diagnosis. A number of investigations may be needed to make a full diagnosis.
