Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

The aim of Eyelid Surgery is to remove any excess skin and fat, tighten muscles and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, helping to give you a more youthful and rested appearance.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Sagging skin and puffy fat deposits on your upper or lower eyelids may give you tired, old or sad appearance. Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) can be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelid.

If your brow has fallen, Dr Edinburg may also recommend Brow Lift Surgery, which will further help rejuvenate your face.

The procedure for Upper Eyelid Surgery involves making an incision along the natural eyelid creases in order to disguise scars. Excess skin is removed and, if needed, the muscle is tightened slightly to lift the eye area. For Lower Eyelid Surgery, an incision is made just below the lower lash line, and excess skin and fat is removed. Dissolvable stitches or surgical tape is used to close the wound.

After Eyelid Surgery, your eyes may be covered with gauze and you may experience swelling, bruising and dry eyes, which should subside after a week or so. The final results of your Eyelid Surgery will become apparent after several weeks, leaving you with a more alert and refreshed appearance.

Dr Edinburg will tailor your Eyelift Surgery according to your specific needs. For example, some patients need the under-eye fat pockets removed, while for others, removing them would result in a hollowed-out look, so a different approach is needed.

Eyelid Surgery can also be combined with a facelift or Brow Lift Surgery, as well as Laser Resurfacing, Medical-grade Peels, Wrinkle Relaxer Injections, Wrinkle Filler Injections (Dermal Fillers), to improve lines in the lid area.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) can also do wonders for men. Eyelid Surgery can provide a well-rested and refreshed appearance. Find out more about Dr Edinburg’s Male Eyelid Surgery. Eyelid surgery may be performed along with a Facelift for a more dramatic change.

By working with a highly qualified and experienced eyelift surgeon such as Dr Edinburg, you can be assured that you will achieve the most natural result available.

Lower Eyelid Surgery can help to reduce the appearance of puffiness and bags specifically underneath the eyes, by removing skin and underlying tissue, and possibly fat deposits. Upper Eyelid Surgery is designed to help remove excess skin, muscle and fat on the upper lid. Eyelid Surgery can be performed on either or both the upper and lower eyelids – it all depends on what you need and what is appropriate for you. Some patients only have ageing concerns for the lower eyelids and so Upper Eyelid Surgery would not be required. Alternatively, some patients require both Upper Eyelid Surgery and Lower Eyelid Surgery to achieve the results they are after. Every  patient is different, and each and every procedure is tailored to their individual needs.

Eyelid Surgery is not necessarily designed to make your upper eyelids larger. However, depending on your concern, and how the surgeon tailors the procedure to your needs, sometimes the effects of Eyelid Surgery can inadvertently enhance the look of your eyes. For example, if you have overlying soft tissue that’s sagging near your eye region, then Eyelid Surgery may help ‘open up’ the eyelid area and the result is a lifted look. Our patients frequently report that they feel they have a wider field of vision when those ‘hoods’ of excess skin are removed. Similarly, non-surgical procedures such as Wrinkle Relaxers can help smooth out wrinkles and lines near the eye area, producing a more youthful and enhanced appearance.

Cost will depend on the method and extent of surgery, but starts from $4000. Medicare and health fund rebates may be applicable for some Upper Eyelid Surgery.
