Tummy Tuck Surgery

If you’re concerned with abdominal fat, loose muscles and sagging skin, Dr Edinburg and the team at the Eden Institute in Sydney is able to help you with a Tummy Tuck procedure, or Abdominoplasty.

Tummy Tuck Surgery (Abdominoplasty) for Men

Growing numbers of men have shown concern with their stomach region and flabby skin. Either they have lost weight or they have started a fitness regime and they are looking specifically to reduce loose flaps of skin over their tummies or to remove pockets of unsightly fat.

Tummy Tuck surgery is useful to re-contour the abdominal region following major weight loss. For some us, the years have left us with this tell-tale little ‘spare tyre’ around the middle which we cannot get rid of, even with diet and exercise.

During Tummy Tuck surgery, an incision is made from hip to hip above the pubic area, in line with where your underwear would sit. Abdominal muscles and their connective tissue (fascia) are tightened with stitches. Liposuction may be used to remove fat and refine the contours, and excess skin is removed. The navel may need to be repositioned and then the area is stitched closed.

Following surgery, you will wear a compression bandage, and you may have temporary tubes in place to drain excess fluids and minimise swelling. Most people can return to work 1 to 2 weeks after Tummy Tuck Surgery, but strenuous activity is best avoided for up to 2 months. Results should be noticeable immediately after surgery, but more so after the swelling and bruising have gone down. You will have a noticeable scar. However this will be hidden beneath your underwear. Scars also improve in the weeks following your Tummy Tuck procedure.

Dr Edinburg will work with you to determine which tummy tuck procedure will help you achieve the look you want.

In our experience, a tremendous amount of self-confidence is gained by our patients. They report standing more upright, walking with more confidence, and feeling better about themselves. The physical improvement also leads to a psychological improvement.

Both men and women are appropriate candidates for this type of surgery, and Dr Edinburg will use his considerable specialist experience to assist you in making the appropriate choice for you.

Mini-Tummy Tuck Surgery (Mini-Abdominoplasty)

If you’d just like to improve the look of your lower stomach, Dr Edinburg offers a Mini-Abdominoplasty, or Mini-Tummy Tuck, to restore firmness in the lower abdomen in both men and women. This procedure removes excess skin and fat associated with weakness in the abdominal wall beneath your belly button. It results in a much smaller scar and shorter down time.

During a mini tummy tuck, a small incision is made below the bikini line. Skin and fat are detached from the muscle, which may itself be tightened. Liposuction may be used to contour the area. Excess skin is removed and then the two skin sections are stitched back together.

Afterwards, you will wear a compression bandage for a few weeks to assist healing. Initial recovery depends on the extent of the procedure, but is generally around one to two weeks after which you can return to work.

Dr Edinburg will help you to decide the best way to achieve the results you want from a mini tummy tuck.
